Meet Me in the Corner

·

Lately, I’ve been feeling… defeated.

On paper, things are great. I’m working away at my fourth contracted Horror Trivia calendar. I just signed two contracts to contribute to two separate 2008 Llewellyn publications.

I’m fed, caught up on sleep, air-conditioned, and so far (fingers and toes crossed), not experiencing explosive diarrhea.

Yes, the world is…a landfill full of dumpster fires…??…where every day brings a new, shit-filled surprise. (Very much shit-filled, and I guess, at this point, not much of a surprise.) And yes, on any given day, I can find myself wallowing in the misery of it before I force myself up by the bootstraps and carry on.

But this “quashy-y” feeling.

Time with the tarot and allowing myself to slow down a bit made me realize that I’ve been careening down the trivia trail, full stop, head down, focused on that deadline. I’ve been taking breaks to connect with friends here and there, but I haven’t been connecting with myself.

All of this is to say—ALWAYS TAKE TIME to meet yourself on whatever trail you are on. With this new moon, I made this my goal for the cycle—getting back into tarot time, making magick, and meditating.

Which brings me to the corner.

As I let myself fall into the lull of Solfeggio healing frequencies, I suddenly found myself facing a corner between two white walls.

I immediately realized this corner was not a bad place. I mean, corners get a bad rap. They’re where ‘bad’ kids are sent when they misbehave. They’re where we paint ourselves into when we put ourselves in a difficult situation and feel there is no way out. Corners can be tight, cut, or downright scary if we come upon the outside of one and have no idea what’s on the other side.

But in folklore, corners are also a safe haven. They are a place of refuge and protection.

With the inside of a corner at your back, you have two solid walls pressing against your arms in a solid embrace.

And when you purposefully put yourself in a corner, it can become a place of introspection. A place to recharge, reset, and form the magical base of a triangle.

Ahhh, the triangle.

Representative of the number three.

Mind-Body-Spirit

Essence-Enjoyment-Transformation.

Strength-Stability-The Divine.

Creation-Preservation-Destruction.

Beginning-Middle-End.

As the base of the triangle, you are the foundation of all of these. The spirit, the transformation, the divine. And you also have the power to destroy and to bring something to an end—for better or worse.

In math, the triangle = change.

A triangle is also the symbol for a crossroads.

An expansion card—The Crossroads— from Terra Volatile by Credo quia Absurdum.

I’ve been feeling this big-time lately. I literally received the Crossroads card just yesterday. And because things typically come in threes, I’m sure I’ll see another reference to it sometime soon.

I don’t know what’s around the corner, but I choose to nestle myself inside one as I face the wide-open space with wide-open arms.

Do you also feel like you are approaching a crossroads? How can you prepare for whatever may transpire? How can you lean into it? Who is in your corner to support you? How can you continue to align with your truth so you can choose to take a detour without being led completely astray?

I’d love to hear your thoughts, Maverick! And remember—I’m in your corner.
