Is it Time to Transform?

·

Ooooh. Because I’m a nerd, as soon as this word popped into my head today, I immediately looked up its etymology. Derived from Latin, ‘transform’ is a combination of the prefix trans, (across, beyond) and formare, (to form, shape). Across form. Beyond shape. Ooooh.

To change shape. To metamorphose. To change or be changed.

Transform conjures possibilities in my head, which makes my wanderlusting heart go pitter-pat.

I believe that as Mavericks, we are constantly on this trajectory. I know I am. I was just telling my glorious new friend, Dustin, that I have the hardest time sticking to just one thing. I have so many interests that are so uniquely different, and sometimes I feel like this keeps me stuck. He ventured to basically say that my cornucopia of interests is actually my superpower, and that it IS my niche. Huh. (Get a friend that actually uses “cornucopia” in a sentence, btw.)

I do embrace the wanderlust person that is me, and, in fact, I love other people who end up being surprising cornucopias full of strange and unusual things, but it doesn’t exactly place me in the high-ranking category in the algorithm of life. I think I confuse people more than anything else.

But think about transforming. It’s a position I think many of us would like to be in. And the very act of transforming is to constantly be in motion.

We change shape. A shape is a construct, and glob forbid we take on one shape. How boring is that?? We embrace the many forms we may try on at any given time. We enjoy their tickle as we slip into them, as they draw our attention to new and unique parts of ourselves we may have never noticed or given a chance to flourish.

From there, we go beyond the shape, stretching across new boundaries. Sometimes we like where it leads us, sometimes not. Then it’s time to try another one on.

Being a Maverick is exhausting, isn’t it? But would you really have it any other way? Spring is a time to transform, to take inventory of the things we’ve let lie in the cold shadows of winter. Do we want to take them out and dust them off to see the light of day? Or are they things better left in the dark? They could be things that seemed wrong at the time, but could feel right with a different perspective. Because we are always transforming, a little tweaking could make them just right.

Because I’m a writer and a word-nerd, here’s where I tell you to write about it. Jot down what’s calling, without overthinking. It can be something you want to explore or do, a color you never liked before, a show or film you can’t stop thinking about, a book phrase you are obsessed with. Something new you want to try, new music that has you tapping your feet. Why do you think it’s calling to you now? What could it be saying about you, or how you can transform?

Judgement from the beautiful The Shadows We Cast deck, by Nicki Ferrada

As a tarot guide, you know I’m gonna suggest you pull a card to see what comes up from there. Following my own damn advice, I pulled a card before I started writing today, and it was Judgement. Transforming is a theme of this card, along with a rebirth or awakening. It’s time to reflect and also look ahead. You could meditate on this card or pull a new one to get insight into how best to embrace this new shape you’d like to try on. (Don’t read the tarot? No problem. Look up the meaning and/or simply get inspired by the image.)

Let me know how you feel called to transform right now!

Until next time, Mavericks.
